Famed for her beautiful custom Calavera dolls, artist Kat Caro of Melancholy Kitties has turned her talents towards Paul Kaiju‘s Mr Ree sofubi for a special limited run release! Based on the one-off custom Kat created earlier in the year (check it out here), the 5.5″ tall figures have been produced in a vanilla colored vinyl with subtle pink sprays and brushed details, each coming clothed in a glorious hand stitched bunny suit. Touching down in the Melancholy Kitties store on Sunday, October 18th at 9pm EST, pricing and edition size for the rather aptly titled “Fluffbun” Rees are still to be confirmed…
Following the success of the “Jellyfish Dokugan” last year, BLObPUS has once again teamed up with amigurumi (knitting) artist Dol Roffo, this time taking on T9G’s Vatundoo for a special painted/crocheted release! Coming cast in a glow-in-the-dark soft vinyl and treated to red, gold and black sprays courtesy of BLObPUS, the huge figure comes complete with an amigurumi head piece that conceals all but the inset dolls eyes. Originally seeing a limited release at the Osaka Soft Expo over the weekend, the last piece from the run is currently being offered up via lottery for just 13,500yen ($113) plus shipping. For a chance at picking up the piece, all you’re going to need to do is fire over your name, country, address, telephone number and PayPal address to email@example.com. A close date hasn’t been set for this one, so be sure to get your entry in quick to avoid disappointment!
Topheroy proudly presents his latest custom masterpiece, the “My Pet Monster” Autopsy Baby! Cast in a clear blue resin for this incredible one-off, Topheroy has adorned the gruesome infant in a mixture of neon red, purple, blue and orange sprays 100% faithful to the cult 80’s plush (the MPM chains reference in the staple stitches being the icing on the cake for us!). Unfortunately not for sale at present, we’ll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed that a similar run in the recently unveiled Autopsy Baby sofubi will rear it’s ugly head soon… Well, we can hope anyway!
MAN-E-NEWS// Taylored Curiosities’ ‘Brilliant Blue’ & custom Giant Monster Embryos now available online…
Another artist we were finally able to catch up with at ToyCon over the weekend (however brief!), the lovely Penny Taylor of Taylored Curiosities brought along a mesmerising display of aroma-plush, one-off mini sculpts, resins (including a cheeky proto of a forthcoming collab with Alto!), and of course, the hotly tipped Giant Monster Embryo customs. Easily one of the show’s highlights, the beautiful display featured pieces from some of the art toys scene’s finest, the remainder of which have now been put up in the Taylored Curiosities web store… Joined by the original ToyCon exclusive ‘Brilliant Blue’ edition, the impressive 2.5kg+ hand cast resin figures range in price between £225 for the production piece, right up to £433 for Nervis Wrek’s Nibrian custom. Head over here for a closer look, and stay tuned for more news on ‘that’ Alto collab soon!
