MAN-E-NEWS// Bob Conge “Recent Works” at the Phillips Gallery…

“The Toy as Art…”

Following the MISFITS reveal last week (find out more here), Bob Conge aka Plaseebo kindly shares details of his latest show of recent works at the Phillips Gallery, NY. Sitting alongside the very first MISFIT release (the Night Gamer Misfit), Conge will also be presenting a whole host of “Toy Shrine” gicle prints, plus a selection of new custom toys including the pictured “War Masquerades As Innocence”… Using the familiar tank design seen in Plaseebo’s recent “Dave” custom, the hand cast resin piece features a mixture of sculpting and found objects in the artist’s distinct neo-kaiju style. Painted in a mixture of neon Monster Kolor sprays and earthy washes, the grim reminder of war’s evil face has got to be one of the strongest, most thought provoking pieces from the artist yet… Touching down at the Phillips Gallery next Saturday (September 22nd), with an opening reception between 1-5pm, Recent Works will be on show until October 20th. Stay tuned for more reveals throughout the week…

“These are pieces inspired by the vivid memories of a fervent belief in the likes of Santa and Frankenstein, the tragic loss of that vibrant reality and on occasion my revulsion with the reality of today. My pieces find expression in the form of small sculptural figures in vinyl or resin and large folio limited edition prints.”  -Bob Conge

After what seems like an age since the reveal of JC Rivera‘s jaw-dropping Platoon Hero resin (check it out here), the Chicago based artist is proud to announce that the first official edition will be dropping this week! Entitled “The Fallen Hero”, the winged grenade-cum-spray can has been hand cast and painted in a black resin, coming imbued in a beautiful floral style embossing. Limited to just 10 pieces this time around, The Fallen Hero will be dropping in Rivera’s store this Friday (September 14th) for $75 plus shipping… stay tuned for news of more colourways soon!

MAN-E-NEWS// Jeff Lamm’s Mecha Greasebat sofubi announced…

In an unusual reveal through his latest print release, Jeff Lamm has announced an all-new rendition of popular sofubi Greasebat… this time in Mecha form! Featuring the illustration that will be used for the figure’s header art, the print gives us some indication of what to expect, including an awesome mechanised body design and missile firing “Punch fist”… here’s keeping our fingers crossed for full working parts! Unfortunately, information on the project is still scarce (we’re still not even sure if this will be sculpted/produced by original duo Chauskoskis and Monster Workshop), so be sure to stay tuned over the coming months for further developments…

MAN-E-NEWS// The Max Toy x Todd Robertson Kaiju Eyezon project…

Whilst new toy info has been a little thin on the ground today, the final reveal of the long awaited Max Toy Co x Todd Robertson Kaiju Eyezon project over at Max’s Brain has more than made up for it… Quite simply a match made in custom-kaiju heaven, the highly talented pair have set to work on 10 10.5″ tall Eyezons, each tackling 50/50 each in their signature styles… featuring a mixture of Todd’s incredible Mecha chest plate and metallic colours with Mark Nagata’s meticulous sprays, the Monster Kolor infused pieces are truly a sight to behold… Joining the 10 gorgeous customs (7 green and pink, 3 pink and orange), the duo have also worked on a giclee print in a similar fashion, with Mark tackling the left hand side and Todd the right. Priced at an unbelievable $200 for both print and toy, the set will be available at some point tomorrow (Wednesday, August 8th) through the Max Toy Co store… Anyone interested in checking out the processes behind putting the project together should head over to the Toy Karma blog here for more information.
