Unbox Industries x 2000AD’s Visible Man…

After almost 3 years in the making (we first caught sight of a proto way back at NYCC ’13!), the officially licensed Visible Man project from Unbox Industries will finally see it’s first release later this week! Based on 2000AD‘s fateful Frank Hart from early obscurity Visible Man, the series is set to feature a number of interpretations of the character, the first coming in the form of Skull Toys’ classic, 70’s styled design you see above. Essentially a toy within a toy, the 12″ tall figure features an internal hard vinyl body with a super-pliable “X-Ray” skin, both painstakingly produced using vintage toy-making techniques originally employed over 4 decades ago. Coming packed in a deluxe display box (prototype pictured), the absolutely breathtaking figure will be touching down in the Unbox Industries store this Saturday, February 6th for $225 plus shipping. We’ve been told that due to high production costs and failure rates, the figure will be extremely limited, so be sure to keep checking the store throughout the day to avid missing out!

Originally debuting as an unpainted GID proto as part of Free Comic Book Day last month, the official, 2000ad licensed “Zombo” figure from Retroband and Unbox Industries will finally see it’s first online release in an OG “Classic” colorway this weekend! Based on the human-zombie hybrid originally created by Al Ewing and Henry Flint, the character – a star of his own series in 2000AD that ran until 2013 – has been redesigned by Retroband’s Aaron Moreno and digitally sculpted by the team at Unbox. Standing at around 3.75″ tall, the vinyl action figure has been produced in a swamp green vinyl with a minimal factory-style paint app this time around, coming blister packed on a deluxe backer card. Pricing, edition size and an exact drop time for the figure are still to be confirmed, so be sure to keep a close eye on the Unbox Instagram feed here for more details soon…

Teased here a couple of months back, the official, 2000ad licensed “Zombo” figure from Retroband and Unbox Industries will be making a limited debut during international Comic Book Day today (5/2)! Based on the human-zombie hybrid originally created by Al Ewing and Henry Flint, the character – a star of his own series in 2000AD that ran until 2013 – has been redesigned by Retroband’s Aaron Moreno and digitally sculpted by the team at Unbox. Standing at around 3.75″ tall, the vinyl action figure has been produced in a mix of “blank” classic and blue GID for this first run, with a fully painted and blister carded version planned for general release soon after. Unfortunately only available in the UK, the GID Zombos will be touching down at London’s Forbidden Planet later on today for an undisclosed sum… Look out for more on the official release over the coming weeks!

MAN-E-NEWS// The official “Zombo” toy from Retroband x Unbox Industries…

Unbox Industries have revealed that they’ve teamed up with none other than Retroband for an official figure based on 2000AD’s human-zombie hybrid, Zombo! Originally created by Al Ewing and Henry Flint, the character – a star of his own series in 2000AD that ran until 2013 – has been redesigned by Retroband’s Aaron Moreno and digitally sculpted by the team at Unbox. Whilst we’re still unsure of the exact direction of the piece at the moment – the sculpt appears to work in both Retroband’s standard 3.75” action figure scale or as a full-fledged vinyl – we do know that we won’t have to wait for long to find out, as the figure’s release is set to coincide with Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 2nd… Stay tuned for more news as we get it!

MAN-E-XCLUSIVE// Unbox Industries’ Visible Man protos at ToyShack…

We took some time out yesterday to head over to Triclops‘ Toy Shack over in Walthamstow, London, to talk shop, bag some toys, and of course, check out Unbox Industries‘ incredible Invisible Man prototypes in-person! Based on 2000AD‘s fateful Frank Hart from early obscurity Visible Man, the release is set to feature a number of interpretations of the character, including an “OG” design from Skull Toys, plus “bootleg” versions in the form of (from left to right) Datadub’s cyborg, Paul Kaiju’s Mars Attacks homage, Real x Head’s cycloptic self-portrait and Matt Doughty’s Glyos Pheyden.

Once again taking designer toy production to a whole new level, Unbox have been hard at work experimenting with a mixture of new mediums for the release, with the full articulated, 12″ figure featuring hard vinyl muscles, guts and bones that have been seemingly impossibly skinned with a layer of super-soft vinyl- truthfully, even with the figures in-hand we were having trouble working out how these things were fitted so tightly!

With just a few more tweaks (plus the rumoured inclusion of another design from MVH!) to go before this monumental project heads into production, be sure to stay tuned for final proto reveals, paint tests and release details over the coming weeks…

MAN-E-NEWS// Ro-Jaws and Ro-Jaws ‘Backhole’ 1/6th figures from 3A Toys x 2000AD…

Revealed here a few weeks back, 3A Toys‘ first collaboration with comic book legends 2000AD will finally be available to pre-order soon. Rolling exclusively onto the Bambaland store on March 22nd, the ‘ol sewer bot’ will be available for $110 (shipping included)- ready to ‘come to your abode and clean the… you know!’. 3AA members will also have access to an exclusive BLACKHOLE edition, which will be priced the same as the OG. Expect more news on the next 2000AD collaboration, Hammerstein, to follow soon…

Today’s 3AVOX also revealed another interesting robot to come from the studio, Harold FS: the Rothchild Experimental DIV. Following last year’s Darwin Rothchild release, Harold FS once again delves into the fictional history of WWR to offer a glimpse of how the present World War Robots came to be. Featuring fully articulated removable arms, mounted machine guns and fully working tank tracks, the beautifully designed figure should be coming to the Bambaland store sometime soon…
