As part of her upcoming “Kaiju Negora” shows in both LA and New York, Japanese artist Konatsuya has teamed up with Koraters‘ Shoko Nakazawa for 2 very special toy releases! Kicking things off with the LA leg this coming Monday, April 1st at QPOP with a hand painted Kaiju Negora and Byron set, this will be followed by a similar Kyubiros and Byron release in NY some time in September. Pricing and edition sizes are still to be confirmed, but we’ll be holding out hope that a few of the Negora/Byron sets will make it to the QPOP online store soon…. Keep a close eye on Konstsuya’s blog here for more info on the show this week!

MAN-E-NEWS// Josh Herbolsheimer x Medicom Fungus Amungus “Earth Wolf” Rotofugi exclusive…

Coinciding with his latest solo show entitled “Fungus Amungus“, San Francisco based artist Josh Herbolsheimer will be releasing the Rotofugi exclusive Earth Wolf sofubi. Translating Josh’s signature mis-matched aesthetic and dark kaiju style perfectly, the disturbing vinyl figure stands at a monstrous 10″ tall. Cast in brown/dark brown vinyl, with grey sprays and tan, green, red and black accents, Earth Wolf will be available at the show’s opening today (June 1st), with any remaining hitting the Rotofugi store on Monday (June 4th) for just $150 each…

“Joshua Herbolsheimer grew up on Eternia, fighting alongside the Mighty Skeletor against the villainous He-Man and his evil thugs. During the height of battle, he attempted to transform into an 18-Wheeler, but ended up becoming a human adult. After a brief period of real-life, he fell through a Warp Zone into San Francisco, California, where he currently creates toys and t-shirts at Super7, and spends his free time hiking through the woods and riding his bicycle.”

MAN-E-NEWS// We Become Monsters’ one-off Skelechubs for Toy Invaderz…

Chris Moore over at We Become Monsters proudly presents 3 out of the 5 one-off Skelechubs that will be featuring at the upcoming Toy Invaderz show. Cast in a mixture of clear and opaque resins including solid gold and smoke, our favourite so far has to be the above creation… the flow of bloody red tint that seemingly runs from the 3″ figures mouth offers a stunning (if slightly horrific!) contrast to the crystal clear resin. No news as of yet with regards to availability, so be sure to stay tuned as we get closer to the event’s June 30th opening for more details, including the reveal of the final 2 Skelechubs…

UPDATE// Chris has stated that these guys are actually 1.5″ tall rather than the previously mention 3″. More will be heading to the We Become Monsters store soon, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled. The remaining 3″ Skelechubs in-store are the last Chris will be making in that size, so if your interested, head over there quick before they’re gone forever…

MAN-E-NEWS// The Hang Gang’s “May the 4th be with you” group art show revealed…

With a number of Star Wars themed celebrations taking place around the world last Friday, we decided to get a piece of the action by heading down to the highly anticipated “May the 4th be with you” group art show at FullCircle, Leeds. Curated by Barry over at the Hang Gang, the massive event played host to over 30 different artists work- both art and custom toys- including the likes of Richard Page, Jon Paul Kaiser, Guy McKinley, Drew Millward, Squink, Bryan Brutherford, and Elmos Empire, most of which were on hand to talk Star Wars, consume art, and of course, drink beer!

As you can see, a great time was had by all, but the fun didn’t stop at the artwork and alcohol… Nestling amongst the various paintings, prints and customs was one of the largest displays of vintage Star Wars toys we have ever witnessed! Featuring a massive selection of carded figures alongside some extremely rare playsets and vehicles (boxed Imperial Attack Base and Troop Transporter anyone?!!), the whole collection was housed in a beautiful display that reportedly cost around £1000 to construct!

As well as the plethora of Star Wars themed art and toys, Barry also laid down one hell of a party… From the wonderful array of treats conjured up from the Wookie Cookie handbook, through to the patrolling Storm Troopers, A New Hope screening and pop-up shop, no expense was spared in making this a great night. A massive thanks to the organisers and all the great people who turned up, and here’s hoping for more of the same next year!

We couldn’t resist picking up a piece from the show, and what a piece it was! One part of a triplet set (the other 2 are pictured above), Jon Paul Kaiser’s “Chewie” Mini-Munny was easily one of our favourite customs on display. Now sitting proudly on display at the MAN-E-TOYS HQ, we can’t help but feel he needs a certain UME Wookie (also above) to keep him company!

Anyone interested in picking up one of the many pieces will be glad to know that they will be heading to the Hang Gang store in the next few days. Be sure to keep checking back regularly, as we can guarantee they won’t be around for long…

MAN-E-NEWS// The Swanicorn Companions from Daniel Fleres x Dragatomi…

Artist Daniel Fleres is proud to present his first line of figures based on his signature character, the Swanicorn. Created in conjunction with Dragatomi, the 7″ tall horned resin beauties have been hand cast by the gallery, with the initial run of 16 coming with their own one-off designs hand painted by Fleres himself. Making their debut at the artist’s upcoming show at Dragatomi on Saturday, May 12th, expect to see the Swanicorn Companions alongside a whole host of Swanicorn illustrations and traditional wall art. No news yet on pricing or the possibility of a general release, but we’re guessing that with the huge demand for them, these little guys could follow the same path as Bigfoot’s Fujisan (another Dragatomi produced resin figure), which will be seeing a vinyl production run at some point this summer…
