Famed for her beautiful custom Calavera dolls, artist Kat Caro of Melancholy Kitties has turned her talents towards Paul Kaiju‘s Mr Ree sofubi for a special limited run release! Based on the one-off custom Kat created earlier in the year (check it out here), the 5.5″ tall figures have been produced in a vanilla colored vinyl with subtle pink sprays and brushed details, each coming clothed in a glorious hand stitched bunny suit. Touching down in the Melancholy Kitties store on Sunday, October 18th at 9pm EST, pricing and edition size for the rather aptly titled “Fluffbun” Rees are still to be confirmed…
Holly aka A Little Stranger has been teasing images of the new ‘Spring Chicken’ Cavey on her Twitter feed for the past week, so it came with great delight yesterday to find out the little guy will be available alongside new companion ‘Coney’ in time for Easter. Coming in super-soft bright yellow fleece with adorable wings and beak, ‘Spring Chicken’ Cavey has been limited to 75 hand numbered pieces, with a price tag of just $25.
Paying homage to last year’s ‘Cavey in a Bunny Suit’, ‘Easter Bunny’ Coney comes in the same chocolate brown/polkadot micro-fleece replete with huge bunny ears. Coming in a smaller edition of just 30 pieces, Coney is set to drop alongside ‘Spring Chicken’ Cavey for just $30 each next Thursday (April 5th), exclusively on the Cavey store…
Set to drop February 9th at all Kidrobot retailers, the Tiger and Cow ‘stache Labbit plushes are the latest additions to Frank Kozik’s massive line. Both Tiger and Cow editions come in 7″ and 14″ sizes, retailing at $17.95 and $39.95 respectively.
Tiger ‘stache Labbit-
Cuddly and dangerous, the Tiger Labbit (aka Labittus Tigrus Rotundii) is the ferociously furry plush version of the iconic Kozik character we love. Looking dashing in front of any fireplace, Tiger Labbit has a fire orange coat, black stripes, white belly, and swanky brown stache’. Totally harmless unless he attacks, Tiger Labbit will keep you warm at night… just sleep with your tranquilizer gun loaded.
Cow ‘stache Labbit-
Who could ask for anything more in a plush pal? With a signature swanky stache’, the Cow Labbit (akaLabbitus Bos Taurus) is a furry bullish version of the iconic Kozik character we love. Great for tipping and delicious with Worcestershire, Cow Labbit is an important part of the nutritional pyramid, and really the only friend you need.
Dropping tomorrow (Friday December 16th) on Tado’s recently relaunched store, their latest collaboration with Creo Design comes in the form of Funghi, a 4″ resin mushroom beastie available in a staggering 35 different colourways. The little guys have been limited to a run of 60, with each signed, numbered, and boxed by Tado themselves. Priced at £45 each plus p&p, be sure to check out either Tado or Creo’s stores from 12 noon GMT to bag yours- they won’t be hanging around for long!
Alongside working on the Funghi project, the Scottish couple have also been readying their latest batch of handmade plushes for the Tado shop. The huge collection of soft toys have been stuffed and stitched with the help of the amazingly talented Felt Mistress, and should hopefully still be on target for a release before Christmas. Check the wearetado blog for information on sizes/pricing.
In conjunction with Disney’s The Muppets motion picture, group art show “Lovers, Dreamers, & Me” pays homage to the late, great Jim Henson. Opening last Saturday (December 10th) at the Nucleus gallery, Tado, along with over 30 other artists participated in the mixed media exhibition.
Choosing their favourite Fraggle Rock characters, the hard working and songful Doozers, Tado have lovingly re-interpreted the cute green builders using paper mâché in their trademark super-deformed style. For more information, and to view the rest of the show, check out Nucleus’ site here.
Opening last Saturday (November 12th), ‘Plush-o-Rama’ is the latest show at Sacremento’s premier art toy gallery and store, Dragatomi. Organised by highly respected low-brow illustrator Julie West, the show features a number of talented artists including 64 Colors, Gary Ham, Shawnimals, Superdeux and Scott Tolleson, all of which have created stunning one-off plush toys in their beautifully unique styles.
Show curator, West, has gained a huge reputation amongst the art community over the years, with clients including Nike, Disney Vinylmation, Taco Bell and Hewlett Packard, but it’s been her continued work with the likes of Kidrobot (Ye Olde Dunny series, Fatale Dunny series), Toy2R (Skelanimals series) and Strange Co that has cemented her position as one to watch in the art toy scene. Julie has also created a piece for the show, check it below. For more information on the artist, go to her site here.
Dragatomi have recently released a full preview on their gallery page, anyone interested in purchasing any of the pieces should contact the gallery directly. ‘Plush-o-Rama will be running at Dragatomi until December 3rd.
