With RESTORE’s Dr Death now having received several releases since its debut back in October last year, it comes with great pleasure to find that the other 2 figures in Rockin’ Jelly Bean and Blackdots‘ hotly tipped Freaky Monster Village series are now finally up for grabs! Heavily inspired by the rockabilly scene that in-turn spawned the indie sofubi of the late 90’s, we have “Twin Head Skull Bro” from Monster Farm’s Chop and our personal favourite, the “Mummy Man” from Motor Kenz, both coming in at around 8.5” of blank blue and green Japanese soft vinyl. Currently available through the Yamakichiya store right here, both Twin Head and Mummy Man can be yours for 10,800yen plus shipping…

Rockin’ Jelly Bean x Blackdots’ “Full Color” Mr Death…

With off-white and black versions now tucked firmly under their belt, Blackdots and Rockin’ Jelly Bean are proud to reveal that their debut “Freaky Monster Village” sofubi – Mr Death – will be see his first fully-painted colorway this week! Inspired, sadly not by RJB’s signature erotic psychobilly art, but instead by hotrod culture and the early sofubi scene of the mid-late 90’s, the stunning, cigar smoking skull was designed and sculpted by RESTORE’s Abe Junnosuke, featuring articulation in the waist and arms as well as fully-removable cain and eyeball. Produced by Blackdots in a mix of soft vinyl, ABS and PVC, the figure has been treated to a realistic palette of charcoal greys, ivory and brown. Going on sale via limited preorder through the Yamakichi store right here starting Tuesday, March 29th at 11am Japan time, the full-color Mr Death will set you back 10,800yen plus shipping…

Originally teased in prototype form here back in July, the first figure in Rockin’ Jelly Bean‘s “Freaky Monster Village” series – Dr Death – will be making an exclusive debut at Taipei Toy Festival ’15 this weekend! Inspired, sadly not by RJB’s signature erotic psychobilly art, but instead by hotrod culture and the early sofubi scene of the mid-late 90’s, the stunning, cigar smoking skull was designed and sculpted by RESTORE’s Abe Junnosuke, featuring articulation in the waist and arms as well as fully-removable cain and eyeball (read: gearshift knob!). Produced by Blackdots in an unpainted off-white soft vinyl for its first outing, Dr Death will be up for grabs alongside a number of other items at the Blackdots TTF booth (A20) on Saturday, October 9th, coming in at just NTD3000 ($92). Rockin’ Jelly Bean have teamed up with up and coming sofubi producer Blackdots for the release of their latest line of toys, the Freaky Monster Village Series! Featuring a total of 3 mid-szied figures from some of the Japanese indie toy scene’s finest – “Twin Head Skull Bro” from Monster Farm’s Chop, the “Mummy Man” from Motor Kenz and “Mr Death” from RESTORE’s Abe Junnokai – the trio, whilst sadly not directly inspired by RJB’s erotic art, still have their roots set firm in the rockabilly scene that inspired the early indy sofubi of the mid-late 90’s. Revealed in prototype form at Wonderfestival Summer ’15 over the weekend, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for the first round of Freaky Monsters over the coming months…
