MAN-E-NEWS// Paul Shih’s Bevil the Devil Broccoli…

Any followers of cute kaiju legend Paul Shih would have noticed a certain vegetable based figure in the works over the past couple of weeks… which can reveal will be ready imminently! Entitled Bevil the Devil Broccoli, the 4.5″ tall figure is currently in the moulding process, so test shots should be ready (fingers crossed) at some point this week. We’re massive fans of Paul’s original Sushi Kaiju, so it goes without saying that we can’t wait for this guy to drop… expect more news on edition sizes, pricing and availability as soon as it hits. Anyone interested in getting a look at how the figure is being produced should head over to Paul’s site for a photo diary on the project here

MAN-E-NEWS// The Robot 13 mini-figures from Motorbot…

Even after his grisly encounter with an Exacto knife last week (check Instagram for the grisly details!), the ever prolific Motorbot has soldiered on, and whilst not busy casting a vast array of Meatsters, he’s been putting the final touches to the highly anticipated Robot 13 resin 5 pack! As you can see from the shot above, the 3 standing figures are nearing completion (the other 2 are crawlers!), and boy are they looking sweet! Sadly we’re still unfamiliar to the series (we still await our Robot 13 Kickstarter trade print!), so we can’t confirm which characters will be featuring apart from Robot 13 and KING!… so expect a big update once we’re more in the know. Created for the Robot 13 Kickstarter a couple of months back, the 5 packs should be making their way to pledgees in both black and pewter colourways sometime in July/August. Unfortunately, we still don’t have details on whether the release will be available outside of the KS campaign, but we’re guessing Motorbot will be working on a few editions for his shop in the near future…

MAN-E-NEWS// Levi the Lycan one-off sculpt from UME Toys…

After a solid month working in the UME resin lab in preparation for the release of Martin Longbottom, Richard Page has made a welcome return to the clay with the reveal of Levi the Lycan! Sculpted in the unmistakable UME aesthetic, the hairy little creature has the same adorable arms, clumpy feet and knowing smile that has made a certain Mr Longbottom such a success. Painted in Rich’s familiar vivid blue/pink colour scheme, with brown, flesh and black detailing, the cheerful little guy stands at around 4″ tall. No news as to wether Levi is available to purchase, so your best bet is to hit Rich up directly at umetoys@googlemail.com with any enquiries…

MAN-E-NEWS// Beep the Hopbot and a peak at the first Martin Longbottom custom from UME Toys (UPDATED)…

Never a weekend goes by without the reveal of yet more awesome work from Rich over at UME Toys, and this one’s no different! Beep the Hopbot is another beautiful one-off sculpt, taking the iconic 80’s hip hop aesthetic and mixing it up with Rich’s instantly recognisable style. Standing at a sizeable 4″ tall, the adorable tracksuited bot has been lovingly painted in Rich’s signature palette of vivid blues, offering a great contrast to the subtle weathering that we’ve been seeing in his work recently. No news on whether this stunning piece is available to purchase, so our best bet is to hit Rich up directly at umetoys@googlemail.com with any enquiries…

Rich has also been busy a work in the UME resin lab for the past week, preparing for the imminent release of a certain Martin Longbottom! With more info to follow next week (including the reveal of an extra special edition!), we thought we’d share with you a shot of the very first Longbottom custom. As you can see, he’s still an early work-in-progress, but is already bearing the hallmarks of a great UME piece! Stay tuned for an update next week…

UPDATE//

It appears that just moments after posting the above WIP shot, Rich revealed the finished piece! Coming in the official Martin Longbottom green/purple colour scheme seen in earlier sculpts, this custom will unfortunately not be for sale- he’s already made a home at the UME studio with his bigger brother! Stay tuned for more news next week on the planned DIY Longbottoms, painted Martins and some awesome trick finishes…

MAN-E-NEWS// “Cans” custom sculpt and those Wookie magnets from Rich UME…

Richard Page over at UME Toys bombards us with yet another quality custom sculpt, the hip-hop loving “Cans”! Based on a sketch Rich did a while back (pictured below), this guy has been in the sculpting stage for the past week, so it was great to see him finally emerge with a huge blast of colour! Featuring the smooth flowing curves and top-notch characterisation that we’ve come to know and love from the talented sculptor, the vivid pink and blue colour scheme really helps to make this piece pop, whilst making it undisputedly UME. No news on whether this guy is available to purchase, so our best bet is to e-mail Rich directly at umetoys@googlemail.com for the lowdown…

After briefly mentioning to Rich about making Wookie magnets in the style of his recent Chewie custom last week (find out more here), he swiftly managed to sculpt, cast and paint the little critters in time for last Friday’s Star Wars Leeds event! Limited to a batch of just 8 at the moment, we were lucky enough to receive one on the night (expect a full write up tomorrow!) along with Rich’s beautiful trademark Tiki mask. Anyone interested in picking one of these up should e-mail Rich at the above address asap- they’re not going to be around for long!

MAN-E-NEWS// The “Ronin” custom Horselington from JC Rivera…

We’ve been closely following the progress JC Rivera‘s Horselington custom on Instagram for quite some time now, so it came with great pleasure to find the finished shots of said project in our inbox this morning! Privately commissioned, Rivera was tasked with creating a Samurai inspired piece, with the end results taking form as the mighty Japanese warrior “Ronin”! Featuring an astonishing level of of original sculpting, Rivera’s trademark red and bone colouring, and even a removable kabuto mask, this has to be one of our favourite takes on Ewok’s Horselington to date. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, this guy was for a private commission so wont be for sale. However, if you are interested in locking down one of his amazing customs, be sure to head over to his store, or if you prefer, drop him a line for a specific piece through his site here

MAN-E-NEWS// Zukie in a Bottle Part 2 from Alison Perez…

With the original ‘Zukie in a Bottle’ selling out in a matter of hours, Alison Perez (aka Miss Zukie) has bowed to the pressure from fans, with a second round set to drop later this week. Featuring a new and improved design, Alison has scrapped the original ‘thought scrolls’ in favour of painting the Zukie’s musings directly onto the inside of the glass. Created using a mixture of sculpey, hobby grass, clear resin, ink and a glass corked bottle, the latest (and sadly final) run of ‘Zukie in a Bottle’ has been limited to just 13 pieces. Priced at $35 each plus shipping, expect to see these hit the Zukie store this Friday, April 6th at Noon EST…
