Covered extensively right here a couple of weeks back, Peter Kato‘s Uamou x Mogu Tanks are now available exclusively from Uamou Studio as part of their new Valentines range! Featuring a completely retooled version of the original Mogu Tank design, the Uamou edition comes with a newly embossed logo on the front, plus the addition of a fully removable, micro-sized Uamou nestled right under the mole. Initially up for grabs in a total of 11 one-off hand cast and painted colourways (including the pictured “Pear”), the Uamou x Mogu Tanks are currently up for grabs in the Uamou Studio store for just 3,500yen each- overseas enquiries can be directed at info@uamou.com

MAN-E-UPDATE// The Uamou x Mogu Tanks from Peter Kato…

IMG_9890

Whilst we briefly covered the Uamou x Mogu-Tanks earlier in the week, creator Peter Kato has very kindly shared some extra details on the incredible collaboration! “[The idea of a revised] Mogu Tank was born back in NYCC 2013, whereby Matt from Onell design had suggested that the tank base should have a driver head- At the time it never dawned on me that the feature was needed to give the Mogu (mole) piece a more secure fit! As I was re-engineering the piece for my new base (with a sculpted Army Jack styled driver planned), Ayako Takagi contacted me kindly asking for a Studio Uamou batch of Mogu-Tanks. At that time I had suggested to add an Uamou emblem to the tank face which she was very excited about, and so I asked for some time to complete the project, and possibly take the driver head idea a little further.

Well, after many fruitless nights in the studio throughout December, Peter finally found a way in which he could incorporate the extra design feature- by not only including a driver, but a full figure that could be completely removed from the vehicle as well! Going back to the tank track base’s digital sculpt, a horned Uamou logo was embossed on the front first, whilst a 3cm inlay and 1cm wide hole were added to the top for the tiny driver to sit. Joined by a micro sized Uamou digitally sculpted specifically for the release, the Mogu (mole) piece was then finally retooled by hand to accommodate the figure’s extra head (horn!) room… Due for release exclusively at Studio Uamou in the near future, a number of different runs have been planned, including a batch of one-offs, an “Apple” green and red, and our favourite, a keshi-gomu flesh! Each coming with a micro Uamou hand painted by Ayako herself, the little guys will be up for grabs at just 3,500yen a set. Keep an eye on the Studio Uamou IG feed here for news on the release soon…

MAN-E-NEWS// Peter Kato’s Uamou Mogu-Tank revealed…

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 14.10.39

Our good friend Peter Kato has just revealed that he’ll be teaming up with Uamou for an exclusive edition of the Mogu-Tank. Featuring the same multi-part design as previous releases, this new version comes with a retooled tank track base that’s a lot more radical than first glances would suggest- as joining the new Uamou logo branding, the sleepy mole can now be removed to reveal a micro Uamou driver sitting snug inside! Due to go on sale at the Studio Uamou store at some point in the near future, we’ll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed for a western release later in the year. Head over to Peter’s IG feed here for a full turnaround of the figure…

MAN-E-NEWS// RAMPAGE x UAMOU Part 2 and more from Rampage Toys…

In an effort to make up for the fact that Rampage Toy‘s March exhibition at Studio Uamou ended up being mostly unavailable to those not able to attend, Jon Malmstedt has been hard at work on a new batch of pieces for the aptly titled “RAMPAGE x UAMOU Part 2” sale! Consisting of a few small runs of Uamous, a couple paintings (including one collaborative painting with UAMOU herself), and a batch of custom Ugly Unicorns from Uamou in her signature style (black line-work on white sofubi). Everything will go live in in the Rampage Toys shop next Friday (June 15th) at 11am Japan time (Thursday at 10 PM in American Eastern Standard Time). Head over to Jon’s Flickr for more pics over the next couple of weeks…

Cyclops Dinosaur Sofubi wax prototypes revealed…

Jon is pleased to announce that the wax prototypes for his upcoming Cyclops Dinosaur Sofubi release have been finalised… leaving just the jointing and master moulds to be made before we see these little guys in soft vinyl! Jon still plans for a debut release at SDCC this year, we’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed! More news, plus vinyl test pulls to follow shortly…

Rampage x Frenzy work-in-progress…

Whilst very little is known about Rampage Toys’ upcoming collaboration/custom series with Frenzy, we’ve decided to post the below pic as these guys were way too awesome not to share! By the looks of the Rampage Instagram feed, Jon has a lot of these customs planned in the near future… we personally can’t wait, the neon pink/purple figure is quite simply stunning! Expect to see these make an appearance sometime in July, more news soon…

MAN-E-NEWS// The neon “Starpets” from Killer J x Rampage Toys…

In between his busy schedule of creating new pieces for both Studio Uamou and the upcoming “Pandemonium” custom show (find out more here), Jon Malmstedt of Rampage Toys has managed to cram in yet another awesome collaboration, this time with Japan’s Killer J! Jon has painted up 4 of the artist’s “Starpet” sofubi, that have been cast in GID vinyl, coming in either neon orange, pink, purple or green sprays. Featuring Jon’s signature masking (this time with a rather apt star design), the paint job really helps bring the figures to life… especially with the lights switched off! Landing on the Killer J blog/store on June 9th alongside a whole host of other sofubi goodies, expect to pay 4000 JPY (around $50) plus shipping…
